The Worship song of the week: “What a Savior” by Nathaniel Bassey

Album of 2016 https://nathanielbassey.net/album/this-god-is-too-good

If you are like me, then worship songs are a key part of your daily life. I love pop soul type of music. I love songs where you have strings. Violin and cello makes such a difference to a song, I love the piano, the trumpet. But mostly I love to hear voices who are so passionate and merged in the instruments, that they culminate into a heavenly harmony.

For that reason I love Nathaniel Bassey’s worship songs. He is a very talented artist, but more than that he is a passionate worshiper. His songs are so beautiful, the lyrics are pure worship, focused on the character and atributes of God. God is at the center, not “me” and “me need this” which unfortunately characterizes many worship songs of our times. That’s why I believe that pure worship centers on God and His character. God lifted up in our praises.

Recently Nathaniel Bassey released his last worship song “What a Savior”. I have listened to this song the whole week. I love artists who introduce back vocals in their songs, as I do believe that back vocals make a song expectional, no matter how talented an artist is. Strings, especially violins turn a song into a celestial piece of music. Multitude of gifts and talents bring much more beauty and power.

Here it is a part of its lyrics

What a Precious
Hope I have in you
I will not be Ashamed
What a Story of your Amazing Grace
I was Lost now I’m Found

I’m Overflowing with Gratitude
For all of the things you do
My Hearts Desire
Is Just to be Truly Able
To Sing this Song

The role of worship in our lives

Worship is a key ingridient of our life. It is not just listening to music. It is much more. In the Old Testament we see that many times worship was a battle weapon. When the people of God started to sing and worship wonderful things happened. In the New Testament as well we see that worship was a key component of the early church’s life. We see Paul and Silas in prison who start worshipping in the middle of the night, and an earthquake shook the earth, releasing them.

“About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the other prisoners were listening to them. 26 Suddenly there was such a violent earthquake that the foundations of the prison were shaken. At once all the prison doors flew open, and everyone’s chains came loose. 27 The jailer woke up, and when he saw the prison doors open, he drew his sword and was about to kill himself because he thought the prisoners had escaped. 28 But Paul shouted, “Don’t harm yourself! We are all here!” Acts 16:25-28. You can read the full story here https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Acts%2016%3A16-40&version=NIV

Worship plays a unique role when we find ourselves in storms of life. When our feelings are so intense that we struggle to even find the right words to pray. You can sing worship songs. Or you can listen to worship songs when you feel too weak to sing. (Are you going through a storm? Here is another article you can read https://shigjete.com/god-in-the-storm/)

What place does worship plays in your life? What is the worship song of the week or month for you?
